著作権収入だけで年間３億円
TMネットワークで着実にファンを増やし、１９９０年代には安室奈美恵、TRF、globeなど1990年代の音楽シーンをリードした巨匠小室哲哉氏。小室ファミリーと言えば日本中で知らない人はいないほどでした。香港のベンチャー株式市場GEMに打って出たものの株価が急落したことを契機に、資産を失った小室氏は、経済的に困窮し２００８年に音楽の著作権の譲渡に関する詐欺事件を起こしています。
小室哲哉事件
小室氏の全盛期の年収は２０億円、資産は１００億円と言われるほどだったのですが、９０年代後半には小室ファミリーブームも下火に。次の飛躍をアジア市場の開拓にかけて香港で音楽制作会社Rojamを設立し、香港のベンチャー市場GEMに上場。巨額の資産をかけて勝負に臨んだのですが、株価が急落し資産の大半を失ってしまったといいます。
カラオケやテレビ番組などで放映される音楽の著作権収入だけで３億円ほどあったといわれている収入源であるにも関わらず、小室哲哉氏は事業の失敗により金銭的に困窮してしまったことがきっかけで、音楽の著作権を１０億円で手放すという話を個人投資家に持ち掛けたそうです。
商談は成立し、手付金として５億円を受け取ったのですが、レコード会社が一部の著作財産権を持っていたこともあり、「すべての著作権を持つことに意味がある」と商談上で売ってはいけないものまで売ってしまった形になりました。
損害賠償として６億円を請求された小室氏はいったんその条件をのむのですが、期限までに支払うことができず、２００８年に詐欺として訴えられ逮捕されてしまいました。
